History

Lithia Springs Park is a wonderful natural spring. The park features a scenic landscape of lush foliage, wildlife, and two pools. It’s located in Hillsborough County. You can also take a walk along a nature trail. There are swimming and fishing facilities, and a boat launch for kayaking.

In 1847, Andrew Lastinger and Grant Whitney came to Lithia. They had been living in Georgia, where they owned a plantation. These two settlers became the first white settlers in Lithia.

A few years later, a Methodist circuit-riding preacher named John Pelote was sent to the area. He built a post office in the area. After that, the area was known as Pelote.

In the early 1900s, the area was home to the Sweet Water hotel, a first-class health resort. At the hotel, guests could receive complimentary Lithia spring water. They could also enjoy European wines and custom furniture from Michigan.

Canoeing
